Hello Lovelys!

Today I have a furniture project to share with you that I'm super excited about! It's been months since I painted something in the furniture family so I was very eager to get this project going. Before I show you the "before" and "after", I have to mention how thankful I am for the fabulous, kind, and talented CeCe Caldwell for sponsoring this paint project. Here fabulous paint was perfect for a quick sideboard makeover in our entryway...

I know what some of you are thinking....didn't you already paint that sideboard??? Ummm ya I did but being me, after 2 years, I changed my mind and wanted to lighten it up a bit.

If you are new to the blog, I purchased this sideboard 2 years ago from my favorite local consignment store, Patina Interiors. Here's a picture of "before" it was ever painted....

Back in October of 2014, I painted it with Country Gray on the bottom and French Linen on the top, both by Annie Sloan. Fast forward 2 years, the Country Gray started to look yellow. Overtime, I've our home has evolved and my color pallet consists mainly of various shades of cream, white, oatmeal, and ivory. So the yellow started to stick out like a sore thumb. I got to the point where I couldn't even walk by this piece of furniture anymore without turning my nose up at it. I remembered that CeCe Caldwell's had the perfect shade of white called "Vintage White" that didn't look too white like white out but wasn't yellow either. I used this color on the ottoman I painted that sits in front of our fireplace. (If you missed that post you can read about it here)

Anyways, I knew I wanted to lighten our sideboard in the entryway and Vintage White was the perfect way to do it. So I got to work!

I thought I wanted to keep the top dark and lighten up the bottom so I started out by painting Vintage White on the bottom and Young Kansas Wheat on the top. Keep reading to see what happened...

I LOVE CeCe's paint for so many reasons!! One- it doesn't have an odor. (like not at all) I feel totally safe using it around our son. Second-it covers well. Third- a small amount goes a LONG way so it lasts forever.
After painting 2 coats of each color (letting each coat dry thoroughly in between applications-about an hour) I added some Aging Cream to the top . This was my first time to use CeCe's Aging Cream and I was not disappointed. My only experience with wax has been with Annie Sloan. That stuff smells very strong and requires buffing after application in order to remove the stickiness. With CeCe's Aging Cream, again there was ZERO odor and it went on just as easy as the paint, wiped off just as easily, and dried completely without any stickiness! I never had to buff anything. Here are a few detail shots of the Aging Cream look on top of Young Kansas Wheat...

I used an inexpensive, 2 inch chip brush from Home Depot with very loose bristles to apply the wax.

Next it was time to apply the Aging Cream to the bottom half.

Lastly, I painted the drawer handles. The last time I painted this sideboard, I left the handles their original dark finish. This time I wanted the entire piece to blend in with the wall. To do this, I knew I would have to make the handles disappear. So I started by painting them with 2 coats of Vintage White (letting each coat dry thoroughly in between applications) and then followed up with a light coat of the Aging Cream. I love how easy the Aging Cream is to apply because if you think you've used to much, all you have to do is wipe it off while it's still wet and start over!

And nada! Here is the sideboard finished with Young Kansas Wheat on Top, Vintage White on bottom, and Aging Cream on both...

I LOVE how the sideboard turned out with the above color combo but I wasn't 100% satisfied with it in my house. I kept thinking to myself "I really love the Young Kansas Wheat color on top because it matches our china cabinet BUT, I don't think I'l get over how similar it looks to the way it was before (minus the yellow) and if I'm going to makeover this piece AGAIN it better look completely different!" So I kept going....

I painted over the Young Kansas Wheat with 2 coats of Vintage White to match the bottom half. I let that dry in between each application before applying 1 last coat of Aging Cream to the top.

And whaaaalaaaaaa, officially finished....
